The Year of the Eucharist
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked foe, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to you
That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen.
"To highlight the mystery of the Eucharist, I have asked that we, as an Archdiocesan family, observe a “Year of the Eucharist” during the 12-month period from the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this year (June 6, 2021) until the Solemnity of Corpus Christ next year (June 16, 2022). The theme “Encounter Christ’s Presence” invites us all to a deeper reflection on our own personal relationship with Christ through all the ways the Church teaches that Christ is present in the Mass: in the Word proclaimed; in the Congregation; in the Minister (Priest); and of course, in the Eucharist species itself (Sacrosanctum Concilium, §7). While livestreaming the Mass to our living rooms has allowed us as best as possible to bring Christ to the people during the pandemic (and is likely to stay), this virtual experience pales in comparison to encountering Christ through full and active participation at Mass in person, including receiving Christ in Holy Communion."
